About
A sea change from the Australian countryside to coastline proved to be a formative journey for Rod Coote. A tranquil upbringing in his quiet hometown of Manilla nestled between the lakes, mountains & rivers of New South Wales nurtured his trail to creativity, songwriting & love of nature.
Now based in Melbourne/Naarm, the proflic singer-songwriter’s warm indie folk music paints wide landscapes weaving acoustic instrumentation with his soothing songwriting & introspectively sincere storytelling. Rod has toured with & worked alongside Ziggy Alberts, Garrett Kato, Bears Den, Salt Tree, Hayden Calnin, The Dreggs, Amistat, Pete Murray, Kim Churchill, Steph Strings, Kyle Lionhart and Mark Wilkinson.
Finding songwriting as a teenager influenced by indie folk rooted sounds of Ben Howard, Bears Den, Dustin Tebbutt, Hollow Coves and The Paper Kites, Rod has built a deep connection with his community of loyal listeners through busking, authentic live shows & touring headline shows in Australia & festivals in Europe & UK. He showcased in Australia at BIGSOUND in 2025 alongside performing on intertational festival line ups ‘Between The Trees’ (UK) and ‘Surfana’ (EU).
Rod has released five studio EP's exploring his sea change experience and his own feelings of nostalgia, sense of place and belonging, travel, love, loss and connection to home. He has collaborated with producers Garrett Kato (Riley Pearce, Ziggy Alberts), Hayden Calnin (Harrison Storm, Woodlock), Tim Hart (Stu Larsen, Boy & Bear) and Jackson Barclay (Hollow Coves, Winterbourne).
